Arban's fundamental method book for trumpet was first published in 1864 and has held a top spot in trumpet studies ever since. In 1936, two of the finest trombonists of the day, Charles Randall and Simone Mantia, revised the method for trombone, creating the basis for trombone studies over the ensuing 75 years. Today, Alan Raph brings the Arban into the 21st century, enhancing and expanding the complete Arban text, and addressing new skills and techniques developed up to current times. Sections have been expanded (i.e., scales, arpeggios), and new sections have been added (i.e., slide drills, contemporary forms of double and triple tonguing). Alternate positions havebeen updated and expanded. Sometimes F-attachment positions are given to facilitate awkward slide movements. Raph's exceptional edition also includes a CD of MP3 accompaniments to the 12 Celebrated Fantaisies and Airs Varies, as performed by John Walker, for a complete instructional package for trombone students.
Carl Fischer is proud to present a new edition of the method of choice for generations of trombone and baritone players. Arban's Method for Trombone contains the same tried and true comprehensive system of study that Arban developed over a century ago, and this completely re-engraved edition has been painstakingly edited by prominent trombone performer and teacher Alan Raph, adding some of his own insights with respect to how the trombone and baritone are taught today. The Arban Method for Trombone is the definitive must-have for all trombone players. With this masterful new edition and all of its extra resources, the Arban will remain the driving force in Brasseducation for generations to come.
